I bolt out of bed to see what's up and could smell an electrical burn as well as see some haze in the air, so Shelly and I jumped into our family fire plan. She got Rylan outside and I got Kylee. Both kids were EXCELLENT in getting out.
Shelly moved the 2 cars out while I ran downstairs and grabbed the external hard drive with all our stuff on it while calling 911.
2 minutes later I had Tooele PD here and the Fire Dept was about 7 minutes behind them.
It's the only picture I could snap, but we had 3 fire trucks, and ambulance, and several cop cars on scene.
We determined there was no fire in the house, and narrowed it down to the refrigerator. We unplugged it and the smell seemed to start fading.
Our neighbors, the Johnson's walked over and had the kids go wait in their front room, a very nice gesture, thanks to them for that!
The fire dept finally left around 3:30, and of course Shelly and I couldn't sleep, so watched TV until around 5.
Shelly was happy when one of the firemen complimented her on how clean it was behind the fridge. He didn't even get anything on his black pants when kneeling behind it.
Rylan wins the POSSESSION AWARD of the year! He ran out of the house and grabbed 3 things:
- The Hat that Grandma Barnes made for Christmas
- Doydle (His stuffed dog)
- His TV Remote Control
The next morning I looked at the back of the fridge and found the problem near the compressor.
Time to get a fridge, hate to spend the money, but feel better about that then trying to get the old one fixed.

OMG! Could your luck get any better? What a terrible situation, but it couldn't have turned out any better. Glad to hear everyone is okay and that Rylan's remote got out safely. Sheesh, what a night!
Okay the only reason i got those is because they were right by me and i was able to get them real fast and the remote was inside the hat and i didn't see it until i got out into the car.....man i didn't sleep until the next night (which is tonight) that was a long night...
So, so glad it was only your fridge. It was a sickening feeling to wake up to all the ruckus out there. And Marc, seriously kudos to you on your hard drive. Mike and I were laughing out loud to picture you doing that, but something I would have never thought to do. Now I will remember to do that if our fridge ever acts out like yours :)
Holy Geez! I am still laughing about Rylan and his possessions. Love it! I am glad that it wasn't more serious. I don't think Ry is ever going to live this one down!!! Love you guys!!!

Just another memory to put in your book of life. Rylan is one smart dude and no apologies are required. He took with him the things he treasured most. Wonder what we would take under similar circumstances. I think there is a message in all this recent madness but I am at a loss as to what it is. Glad all is now well. Love ya tons=======
